Some families just click the second you start shooting, and this crew was one of them. We spent an evening at La Perouse for a Sydney family photography session, and the energy never dipped for a second. The kids were wild in the best way, the parents were relaxed, and the coastal light did what coastal light does.
Letting La Perouse Do the Work
La Perouse is one of those locations where you barely have to think about backgrounds. Rocky coastline, open sky, soft green grass that rolls right up to the water. We shot wide to let the landscape breathe, then pulled in tight when the kids started climbing on each other. That back and forth is what keeps a gallery feeling alive.
We always tell families the same thing: don’t worry about us. Play, chase, tickle, be loud. The moments we’re after aren’t the ones where everyone looks at the camera at the same time. They’re the ones where a toddler grabs Dad’s face with both hands. The ones where siblings collapse laughing over something only they understand.
This family gave us all of that and more. They were completely themselves, and honestly, that is when we do our best work. No stiffness, no overthinking. Just a family being a family on a beautiful stretch of coastline. We stayed loose, followed their lead, and let the light wrap around them. The gallery practically built itself.

When is the best time of day for family photos at La Perouse?
Golden hour, about an hour before sunset, is ideal. The light along the coastline softens beautifully and gives you that warm, natural glow without harsh shadows. We always recommend timing your session around that window.
