Bay Front Family Session: Philippe Park in Safety Harbor

Six people, stone steps, late afternoon Florida light, and zero interest in standing still. That’s what we walked into for this bay front family session at Philippe Park in Safety Harbor. The kids set the pace from the first frame, and honestly, we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Letting the Park Do the Work

Philippe Park gave us everything. Massive live oaks for shade, a sandy waterfront for open light, mangroves for that deep green backdrop. We moved through all of it in about an hour, and no two setups looked the same. That kind of variety keeps kids engaged and keeps the gallery interesting.

We pulled the whole crew together on those stone steps early in the session, and it was pure chaos in the best way. Everyone talking over each other, the youngest leaning into Dad, the older girls already cracking each other up. Those are the frames we live for. Not the stiff lineup. The real thing.

There’s a moment in every family session where the parents finally stop directing and the kids finally stop performing, and everyone just exists together. That’s when we do our best work. We shot tight for the sibling moments and pulled wide near the water to let the landscape breathe. If you’re considering family photography in Safety Harbor, this park deserves a serious look. The light at golden hour is the real deal.

After the family frames, Mom and Dad got a few minutes to themselves down on the sand. No kids climbing on them, no one asking for snacks. Just the two of them walking the shoreline while the sun dropped low. We love ending a session that way. It reminds everyone that the couple at the center of the family is worth celebrating too.

Frequently Asked Questions about Family Sessions at Philippe Park

When is the best time of day for family photos at Philippe Park?

About an hour before sunset is ideal. The bay reflects warm light back onto the park, and the live oaks provide shade if the sun is still strong. We always recommend golden hour here because the combination of open water and tree cover gives us the most variety in a short window.

Do you travel to Safety Harbor for family sessions?

We do. We travel regularly for portrait sessions across the country, and the Tampa Bay area is one of our favorite spots. Reach out and let us know where you’re located. We’ll figure out the details from there.
