Woods and Waves: A Coastal Engagement Session at Cannon Beach

The light was gold, the forest was dripping with moss, and these two couldn’t stop grinning at each other. This coastal engagement session at Cannon Beach gave us everything we look for. Real connection, dramatic scenery, and the kind of variety that makes a gallery feel alive. We started deep in the woods and ended barefoot on the sand. Every frame in between told a different part of their story.

From Mossy Forest to Open Shoreline

There’s a moment in every session where you feel the energy lock in. For us, it happened about thirty seconds into the forest portion. The creek was catching light through the canopy. These two were holding hands and laughing, and we pulled in tight because that kind of warmth doesn’t need a wide lens. The Pacific Northwest does moody, intimate backdrops better than almost anywhere. The woods near Cannon Beach delivered.

Then we moved to the beach. The whole session shifted. That’s the thing about the Oregon coast: ferns and filtered light give way to crashing waves and sea stacks in minutes. We shot wide to let the landscape do the talking. The scale of those towering cliffs against two people in love made for some of our favorite frames of the day. If you’re considering Cannon Beach engagement photos, know that this kind of range is built into the location.

We timed the end of the session for golden hour, and it paid off. The wet sand turned into a mirror. The headland behind them caught the last warm light, and they ran along the shoreline like nobody was watching. Honestly, that’s when we do our best work. The couple forgets the camera exists and just lives in the moment. We kept shooting and let them run. See more of our couples sessions here.
