Wrapped in Warmth: A Flower Garden Newborn Session

Orange dahlias, bright zinnias, and a brand new baby girl sound asleep in the middle of all of it. This flower garden newborn session at the Sun Prairie Community Garden is one we still think about. The color, the calm, the way late summer light filtered through rows of blooms. Everything just came together.

Why We Love Outdoor Newborn Sessions

Most of our newborn work happens inside the studio at Garver Feed Mill. We can control every detail there. But outdoor sessions like this one remind us how beautiful it is to let a location do the heavy lifting. The garden provided a palette we could never build on our own.

We kept the styling simple on purpose. Cream and blush swaddles, wicker baskets, a tiny floral headband. The flowers were already doing so much that anything extra would have competed. That restraint is something we’ve learned over years of shooting newborns. When the setting is this good, get out of its way.

She slept through everything. Every reposition, every basket swap, every moment we leaned in for detail shots. That kind of cooperation from a newborn is a gift, and we made the most of it. We shot tight on the textures: knit wrap against her skin, petals just out of focus behind her. Then we pulled wide to show how small she looked nestled into all that color.

The Sun Prairie Community Garden surprises people. Rows of bright, healthy flowers maintained by the community, open space, and soft natural light all afternoon. If you’re looking for newborn photography in Sun Prairie and want something beyond a traditional studio, this is worth considering. We’d love to tell you more about our newborn sessions.
