Studio and Snow: A Winter Family Maternity Session
Pink tulips in February. That’s what we remember first about this winter family maternity session at our Garver Feed Mill studio. This mama brought her little girl, her partner, and a willingness to go wherever the session took them. That turned out to be both a warm studio and a snow-covered creek bank. Having both worlds in a single afternoon is one of the things we love most about being based at Garver Feed Mill.
Soft Light, Brick Walls, and a Toddler with Tulips
We started inside. Our studio has tall windows that pour soft, even light across the room. The exposed brick gives everything a grounded, warm feel without us having to do much at all. We pulled in close for the intimate portraits: mom in that gorgeous burgundy gown, her daughter perched on a rattan chair holding a tulip like it was the most important thing in the world. Honestly, it might have been.
The indoor portion gave us the quiet, tender images. Controlled light, warm tones, a toddler who was totally at ease. That comfort is everything when you’re photographing a family with a little one. Kids don’t perform on cue, and they shouldn’t have to. They just need to feel safe. The rest takes care of itself.
Then We Stepped Outside
The creek behind Garver was lined with snow. Late afternoon light was doing that thing where it turns everything golden, even in the middle of winter. The whole mood shifted. Suddenly we had wide open space, cold air on cheeks, and this beautiful family huddled together kissing their daughter while she clutched her tulips. We shot wide to let the landscape breathe. Those frames are some of our favorites from the entire session.
If you’re expecting during the colder months, let this session be your answer. The contrast between a cozy studio and a snow-dusted landscape gives you a gallery that feels complete. Can I do both indoor and outdoor maternity photos in one session at Garver Feed Mill?
You can. Our studio inside Garver Feed Mill sits right next to a creek and open green space. Switching between the two takes just a few minutes. In winter, we typically start inside where it’s warm and move outdoors once everyone is comfortable. The variety in your final gallery is worth it.
How do I book a maternity session with Twig & Olive?
Head to our contact page and tell us a little about yourself, when you’re due, and whether you’re thinking studio, outdoor, or both. We typically schedule maternity sessions around 30 to 34 weeks, but we’re flexible.
