Fresh Air and First Photos: An Indoor Outdoor Newborn Session
Some sessions remind us exactly why we love what we do. This one started quietly inside our studio at Garver Feed Mill with soft wraps, warm light, and a baby who slept through every single frame. Then we carried the whole setup outside into the wildflowers for an indoor outdoor newborn session that gave this family the best of both worlds.
Studio Warmth, Golden Hour Magic
We started inside our Garver Feed Mill studio where we control every detail: the temperature, the lighting, the background textures. That matters with a newborn. Babies set the schedule, and a calm, warm room makes all the difference. This little one settled in right away, and her parents leaned into each other like they’d been doing this forever. We pulled in close for those forehead-to-forehead moments because that kind of tenderness doesn’t need a wide lens.
Once we had the studio portraits locked in, we headed outside. The wildflowers were blooming along the path behind Garver, and the evening light was doing exactly what we hoped it would. Warm. Soft. The kind of glow that wraps around everything it touches. And then their Boston Terrier got involved, sitting right next to the basket like a proud older sibling. We live for unscripted moments like that.
If you’re considering outdoor newborn photos in Madison but worried about logistics, don’t be. We read babies and we read light. If something shifts, we adjust on the fly. That flexibility is exactly what makes a combined session like this work so well. You can explore more of our work on our newborn and maternity photography page.
Can I combine indoor and outdoor newborn photos in one session?
Absolutely. Our studio inside Garver Feed Mill gives us a controlled, warm environment for classic newborn portraits, and the surrounding grounds offer beautiful natural backdrops for outdoor shots. We plan the timing around golden hour and your baby’s comfort so both settings feel relaxed and natural.
When is the best time to book a newborn session with Twig & Olive?
We recommend booking during your second trimester so we can reserve your due date window. Newborn sessions are best within the first two weeks, when babies are sleepiest and most flexible for posing. Reach out through our contact page to start planning.
