All the Tiny Things: A Jewel Tones Newborn Session
Deep burgundy, rich mustard, soft plum. The color palette for this jewel tones newborn session set the tone before we even picked up a camera. These two brand new babies were calm, the studio was warm, and the whole family leaned into every quiet moment with us.
Color, Light, and Letting Babies Lead
Jewel tones are one of our favorite palettes to work with in the studio. Deep colors create contrast that makes newborn skin look impossibly soft, and the warmth of these hues gives every frame a richness you just can’t get with pastels. We chose wraps, florals, and props that complemented each other without competing, and the result was a gallery with real visual range.
Our studio inside Garver Feed Mill gives us complete control over lighting and temperature. That matters more than anything with newborns. No harsh window light shifting on us, no drafts. Just a warm, quiet space where babies can sleep and we can work at their pace. These two set the schedule, and honestly, they were generous with us.
Then big brother stepped in, and the whole energy shifted. He was gentle and curious and completely unaware of how perfect the moment looked through our lens. We pulled in close for this one. That kiss on a sleeping sister’s forehead is the kind of frame parents come back to over and over again.
What we love about newborn photography in Madison is the trust families place in us during such a tender window. Those first two weeks go fast. The tiny curled toes, the way a newborn tucks into themselves, the weight of a sleeping baby in your hands. We block out plenty of time so none of it feels rushed. The calm is the point.
Why do you photograph newborn sessions at your Garver Feed Mill studio?
Our studio gives us full control over lighting and temperature, which keeps babies comfortable and safe throughout the session. It also means we can design custom setups with wraps, props, and backdrops tailored to each family’s style.
When should I book a newborn session with Twig & Olive?
We recommend booking during your second or third trimester so we can reserve your spot. Sessions are typically scheduled within the first two weeks after birth, when babies are sleepiest and most comfortable being posed. Reach out any time and we’ll get you on the calendar.
