All the Tiny Things: A June Newborn Session

Golden hour in a wide open field with a brand new baby. That’s how this June newborn session started, and honestly, it set the tone for everything that followed. This family brought the kind of calm, easy energy that makes our job feel effortless, and the light that evening did the rest.

From the Field to the Studio

We started outdoors at McCarthy Park, chasing that last stretch of warm light. The parents walked through tall grass with their baby tucked between them, and we shot wide to let the landscape do the talking. There’s something about a family silhouetted in golden backlight that never gets old for us.

Then we moved into our studio at Garver Feed Mill. This is where we have full control over temperature, lighting, and pace, and with a newborn, that matters more than anything else in the room. The baby settled right in. We kept the wraps simple, the props minimal, and let her little expressions carry each frame.

We pulled in close for the studio portion because that’s where the details live. Tiny fingers curled around nothing. A headband almost too big for the tiniest head. The way a sleeping baby shifts just enough to give you a completely different portrait. These are the frames parents come back to years later.

The best newborn photography in Madison, WI happens when everyone is relaxed. No rush, no agenda. The baby sets the schedule, and we follow. That approach gave us a gallery with real range: outdoor family portraits in a sun-drenched field and quiet, intimate studio work all in one evening. That kind of variety is something we love delivering.
