A Beautiful Afternoon: Lakefront Mama and Me

Three kids, one mama, bare feet on the shoreline, and late afternoon light that makes everything feel warmer than it already is. This lakefront mama and me session at Philippe Park in Safety Harbor reminded us why we love shooting families near water. Little ones can splash and wander, and that looseness carried the whole session.

Oak Trees, Stone Steps, and Zero Stress

Philippe Park sits right on Old Tampa Bay. Ancient live oaks throw shade in every direction across the grounds. We used the stone steps near the water for a few seated frames because the texture and scale felt right. Mama sat down with her baby boy in her lap. Her two daughters immediately crowded in. Nobody asked them to. That’s the good stuff.

We pulled in close for the quieter moments. Mama looked down at her son and the rest of the world just fell away. Then we shot wide under the oaks when all four of them were laughing and tumbling over each other. That contrast between moods is what makes a gallery feel complete.

Moms are behind the camera far more than they’re in front of it. We think that needs to change. Your kids are going to want to see you in these photos someday. Not the carefully staged version of you, but the real one. Laughing, messy hair, holding on tight. We’ve been doing family photography for over two decades. These are still the sessions that remind us why we started.

Our session ended with a barefoot walk along the shoreline. Golden light poured across the water. All three kids were loose and happy, and mama was right there in the middle of it. If you’re looking for family photos in Safety Harbor, Philippe Park gives you water, shade, open sky, and room for kids to just be kids. We’d shoot here again in a heartbeat.
