The Good Stuff: A Late Fall Family Session
Five kids, an orchard full of peach trees, and golden light that made us want to shoot until the sun disappeared. This late fall family session at Chestnut Ridge Heritage Preserve in Landrum, SC was one of those evenings where everything just clicked.
Let Them Be Kids
We always tell families the same thing: just be yourselves. Play, laugh, tickle, chase. The more natural the interaction, the better the photos turn out. Posed and stiff is never what we’re after. This crew didn’t need any convincing. The kids were running between rows of peach trees from the start, and the parents were right there with them.
The light at Chestnut Ridge that evening was warm and low. It filtered through the orchard and wrapped around everything it touched. We shot wide to pull in the mountain views behind the barn, then moved in close for the quiet moments. A mom holding her daughter. A redheaded boy burying his face in his mother’s shoulder. Those in-between frames are the ones families come back to years later.
One thing we love about a Landrum session is the variety you get in a single spot. Dirt paths, peach rows, open fields with mountain backdrops. It all feels connected. That gives us a gallery that tells a full story instead of repeating the same backdrop ten times. If you’re considering family photos in the Upstate, this preserve is worth your list.
After we got the whole family covered, we pulled mom and dad aside for a few just the two of them. The way they laughed together on that dirt path told us everything. That kind of easy, unforced connection is what we aim for in every session. These two made it effortless.

Late fall is gorgeous here. The light is warm and low, the orchard has beautiful texture, and you get mountain views without harsh midday sun. We recommend booking about an hour before sunset for the best conditions.
