Little Ones, Big Memories: A Sandy Cove Family Session
Salt air, bare feet, and two kids who wanted nothing more than to climb every rock in sight. This sandy cove family session at Praia da Adraga in Sintra was the kind of afternoon we wish we could bottle up and keep.
Letting Kids Lead the Way
We always tell families the same thing before a session: just be yourselves. Play, chase, laugh too loud. The best frames happen when everyone forgets about the camera, and this crew made that easy. The kids were fearless, scrambling over boulders, burying shoes in the sand, and dragging their parents into every little adventure. We stayed wide for the landscape shots because the scale of Praia da Adraga deserved it. Those towering sea stacks and crashing waves gave us a backdrop that felt almost cinematic.
Then there were the quiet moments. Mom sitting in the sand with both kids wrapped around her. Dad lifting his son up and both of them cracking up. Those in-between seconds are what we pull the lens in close for, and they’re the ones families come back to years later.
Sintra’s coastline gave us everything we needed. The mist rolling off the cliffs softened the light in a way that felt completely different from our usual Wisconsin locations. We shot through golden hour into sunset, and those final silhouette frames against the waves might be our favorites from the whole gallery. If you’re planning family photography in Sintra, this stretch of coastline is worth the trip.
This family was completely relaxed, and honestly, that is when we do our best work. No stiff poses, no forced smiles. Just a family being a family on a gorgeous stretch of sand. We’ve been photographing families for over two decades, and sessions like this one remind us why we still love it. Check out more of our work on our family photography portfolio.
Is Praia da Adraga a good location for a family photo session?
It’s one of the most dramatic stretches of coastline we’ve ever worked on. The sea stacks, sandy cove, and soft coastal light make it ideal for families who want something beyond a standard park setting. We recommend timing your session for late afternoon to catch golden hour.
Does Twig & Olive photograph families outside of Wisconsin?
We do. We travel for family sessions and love working in new locations. If you have a place that’s meaningful to your family, reach out and let’s plan something together.
