Together Is Our Favorite Place: Sedona Family Photography

Some families show up to a session and you can tell they’re just happy to be together. That was the energy from the very first frame of this Sedona family photography session at Crescent Moon Picnic Area. No stiffness, no awkwardness, just a family that genuinely likes hanging out with each other.

Red Rock Light and the Good Kind of Chaos

We timed this session for golden hour, and Crescent Moon Picnic Area delivered. The late sun hit those red rock formations and bounced warm, copper-toned light back onto everything it touched. We barely had to think about white balance. The desert did the work for us.

The baby was a star. Big grins, bare feet in the red dirt, totally unbothered by the camera. We pulled in tight for a few of those close-up moments because they won’t be this small for long. That contrast between tiny toes and vast desert landscape is something we look for in every outdoor family session.

If you’re considering Sedona for your family photos, here’s what we’ll tell you: Cathedral Rock in the background is worth the trip alone. But it’s the trails, the scrubby desert brush, and the way the red earth grounds every image that makes this spot something special. We shot wide to let the landscape breathe, then came back in close for the quiet moments between parents and baby.

Toward the end, we sent the couple down the trail alone for a few frames together. No baby, no props, just the two of them walking hand in hand against that Sedona sky. Those are the ones that tend to end up framed. We love when families let us capture every layer of who they are, not just the group shot.
