Summer Blooms Family Session: Wildflowers & Golden Light

Red hair, purple wildflowers, and a toddler who could not stop grinning. That’s what we walked into for this summer blooms family session at Token Creek Park in DeForest. The prairie was peaking. The light was soft and warm. And this little family brought the kind of easy energy that makes everything click.

Prairie Light and a Kid Who Stole the Show

Token Creek in midsummer is something else. The prairie grasses were chest-high, wildflowers everywhere, and we had that golden hour glow that turns everything amber. We shot wide to let the landscape do the talking. Then we pulled in tight whenever their daughter looked up with that giant smile. She was fearless in the flowers, reaching for petals, toddling through the tall grass. Completely in her element.

What we love about this park is how quickly families relax here. There’s room to roam and trails to wander. Kids can just be kids. No one has to stand still. No one has to perform. The candid moments come naturally, and those are always the frames we reach for first. If you’re considering family photos in DeForest or near Madison, put Token Creek at the top of your list.

We’ve been coming back to this park for years. The blooms never look the same twice. One week it’s purple coneflower and bee balm. The next, black-eyed Susans take over. That unpredictability is part of the magic. Every summer blooms family session here has its own palette, its own feel. This one was all warm golds and deep violet. The way that color played against their daughter’s red hair gave us frame after frame we didn’t want to stop editing.
