Lush Summer Greens: A Summer Engagement Portrait Session
These two showed up with their dog, huge grins, and the kind of easy chemistry that makes our job feel effortless. Their summer engagement portrait session at Cherokee Marsh in Madison had everything we could ask for: tall prairie grasses, wildflowers just starting to pop, and that warm, golden evening light that turns every frame into something special.
Golden Hour at Cherokee Marsh
Cherokee Marsh is one of those Madison locations we keep coming back to. The landscape shifts as you walk through it: open prairie, dirt paths, pockets of wildflowers, then these stretches of tall grass that swallow the light in the best way. We shot wide to let the scenery breathe, then pulled in tight for the quieter moments. The variety here meant we never had to force a backdrop. It just kept giving us new ones.
What stood out most was how comfortable they were with each other. No stiffness, no overthinking it. He’d say something, she’d laugh, and we’d already have the shot. That kind of natural connection is a photographer’s dream because it means we can focus on light and framing instead of coaxing expressions. If you’re considering Cherokee Marsh summer couples photos, know that the landscape does half the work for you.
The last few frames of the evening are always our favorites. The light drops, everything goes soft and warm, and people tend to relax even more. These two sat down near some pink wildflowers and just talked, completely forgetting we were there. That’s when we do our best work. Check out more of our couples sessions here.
When is the best time for engagement photos at Cherokee Marsh?
Late June through August gives you the tallest prairie grasses, the most wildflowers, and the longest golden hour window. We typically start sessions about two hours before sunset so we can take advantage of the changing light as it drops.
Can we bring our dog to a couples session with Twig & Olive?
Please do. Dogs are part of the family, and Cherokee Marsh is one of the most dog-friendly session locations in Madison. We’ll work them into the first few frames and then let a friend take over so we can focus on the two of you. Reach out here to start planning.
