Moments Like These: A Travel Family Session in Fallbrook

Three kids, a dirt trail, and golden California light. That’s all it took for this travel family session at Santa Margarita River Trail in Fallbrook to become one of our spring favorites. We flew out to Southern California for this one. From the first frame it was clear these five were going to make our job easy.

Let Them Run, Let Them Climb

The best thing about photographing families on a trail like this? Nobody has to stand still. We told the kids to just go, and they took off running down the path holding hands. That energy is impossible to fake. It gave us some of the strongest images of the day. We shot wide to let the landscape breathe: dusty trail ahead, live oaks overhead, hills rolling in every direction.

Then there was mom. At one point all three kids piled on top of her at once. Climbing her back, wrapping arms around her neck. She just laughed through all of it. Those are the frames we live for. Not the posed lineup, but the real weight of a family leaning into each other.

Just the Two of Them

Once the kids had their turn, we stole mom and dad away for a few minutes. A winding hillside road, softening light, golden hills. These two were completely relaxed. Honestly, that is when we do our best work. No prompting needed. They leaned into each other and we kept shooting.
