Winter Tree Farm Session: Moments Like These
The light was already going gold when we pulled up to the rows of evergreens. This little guy was grinning before we even had a camera out. This winter tree farm session at Summers Christmas Tree Farm in Frederick, Maryland reminded us why the best family photos happen when everyone forgets the camera is there.
Pine Trees, Warm Light, and Zero Pressure
We tell every family the same thing: just be yourselves. Play, laugh, chase each other between the rows. A tree farm makes that easy. It already feels like an adventure, not a photoshoot. Kids pick up on that energy immediately, and this little one was no exception. He was all giggles from the moment his mom scooped him up.
The evergreens at Summers Farm create a natural frame for every shot. Rich green stays rich green even when everything else has gone dormant. That contrast against warm skin tones is something we always look forward to. We shot wide to let the rows of pines do the work, then pulled in tight for the candid moments between mom, dad, and their boy. Those in-between frames are the ones families come back to years later.
If you’re considering a tree farm for your own family photos, Summers Farm is worth the trip. The rows are well spaced. The light filters through beautifully in the late afternoon, and the whole property has a cozy, nostalgic quality that shows up in every gallery. We travel for family sessions across the country. Locations like this are exactly why.
When is the best time to book a tree farm family session?
Late fall and early winter work beautifully. The light is lower and warmer, and the evergreens are at their richest green. We recommend scheduling about 90 minutes before sunset to catch golden hour among the rows.
