Laughter and Golden Hour: A Boho Outdoor Family Session
Golden hour hit and this family just lit up. That’s the thing about a boho outdoor family session at Garver Feed Mill: the light does half the work, and a family willing to be themselves does the rest. We showed up with a loose plan and let the evening take over.

Your Family, Not a Pose
We don’t ask families to stand still and smile. That’s never been our thing. Real frames come when everyone forgets the camera is there, and this crew made that easy. Kids were running circles, parents were cracking up, and we were right in the middle of it pulling focus on whatever felt most alive in the moment.

Garver’s grounds give us so much to work with. Old brick, tall grasses, open sky. At golden hour the light wraps around all of it and turns even the simplest moment into something cinematic. We shot wide to pull in the landscape, then came in close for the quiet stuff: a kid on someone’s hip, foreheads touching, those looks between parents that say everything without a word.

If you’re considering family photography in Madison, this location should be on your list. Every gallery here feels different depending on the season and the family, thanks to that mix of textures and open space. These two were completely relaxed, and honestly, that is when we do our best work. Kids grow fast. Their photos only get more valuable with time.
When is the best time for an outdoor family session at Garver Feed Mill?
We recommend booking about an hour before sunset for golden hour light. In summer that usually means starting around 7 p.m. The warm, low-angle light around Garver’s brick and open fields creates a beautiful backdrop without harsh shadows.
