Snow, Golden Grass, and Paint Powder: A Culver Wetlands Engagement Session

Most couples pick one look for their engagement session. These two showed up ready for three. Their Culver Wetlands engagement session at Elmer & Edna Culver Wetlands Conservancy in Windsor spanned seasons, outfits, and a whole bag of colored powder paint, and we were here for every bit of it.

Three Sessions in One

We shot winter, fall, and a paint-powder celebration all in the same location. The conservancy gave us snow-covered prairies, frozen ponds, wooded trails lined with golden grass, and open fields flooded with late sun. That kind of variety in a single spot is rare, and it let us build a gallery that feels like a whole year of this couple’s story instead of just one afternoon.

The snowy frames had this quiet, intimate energy. Then the fall set brought warm tones and movement along the trails. And the paint powder finale? Pure chaos in the best possible way. We pulled back wide for those shots because the color exploding against the trees was too good to crop tight. These two were completely relaxed through every transition, and honestly, that is when we do our best work.

If you’re looking for a spot near Madison that doesn’t look like every other engagement gallery, Culver Wetlands is worth the drive to Windsor. It’s quiet, it’s uncrowded, and the landscape shifts enough that you can get wildly different looks without ever leaving. We love when couples choose a place that feels unexpected. It always leads to images with personality. Check out more of our couples work to see what we mean.

That last image still makes us grin. Color everywhere, huge smiles, zero composure. That shift from quiet winter portraits to full-on paint war energy is something we live for. It told the whole story of who these two are together.
