Florida Sunshine and Family: A Fall Maternity Family Session

That mustard yellow dress stopped us in our tracks. Against Spanish moss, sandy trails, and the kind of golden light you only get in Florida at sunset, this fall maternity family session had everything we look for. Lake Runnymeade Conservation Area in St Cloud gave us a backdrop that felt wild and untouched, and this family brought exactly the right energy to fill it.

Oak Canopies, Open Fields, and a Toddler Running the Show

Lake Runnymeade doesn’t feel like Florida. Ancient oaks draped in Spanish moss create these natural canopies of light and shadow, and then you step ten feet to the side and you’re in a wide golden field that glows at sunset. We timed the session for golden hour, and the warm light filtering through the branches gave us soft, layered color in every direction. One trail, two completely different looks. That kind of range is a photographer’s dream.

Their toddler was the real star. Climbing on dad’s shoulders, sprinting down the dirt path, grinning at absolutely nothing. We leaned into every bit of it. The candid moments between the three of them were the ones that made this gallery sing. Mom and dad were relaxed and completely present with each other, and honestly, that is when we do our best work. No stiff posing. Just a family being a family with some really beautiful light behind them.

If you’re considering Lake Runnymeade for a fall maternity family session, go at golden hour. The mix of shaded canopy and open field means you get variety without driving between locations. We shot wide under the oaks to let the Spanish moss do its thing, then pulled in close for the quiet moments in the grass. Florida in the fall is warm, lush, and generous with color, and we’d come back in a heartbeat.
