Real Life, Beautiful Light: A Late Winter Family Session
Flower crowns, bluebonnets, and three kids who never stopped moving. This late winter family session at Cedar Hill State Park had golden hour light that makes Texas feel like a painting. This family made the most of every single minute.
Bluebonnets, Bare Feet, and a Whole Lot of Energy
We showed up to find bluebonnets stretching toward a rustic log cabin, and the light was already doing its thing. Warm. Low. Filtering through the trees. The kind of conditions where we barely think about exposure and just focus on the people in front of us.
And these people? They brought it. The two older girls wore matching white dresses and flower crowns, and they had big opinions about everything. We loved that. Dad was tossing his daughter into the air before we even suggested it. Mom kept pulling everyone together with this calm, easy warmth. We pulled in tight for those moments because that’s where the real stuff lives.
One of our favorite frames from the evening: the two sisters on a quilt in the bluebonnets, looking down at their baby brother like they were responsible for him. Nobody asked them to do that. It just happened. That’s the kind of image you can’t plan, and honestly, it’s the kind we do our best work chasing.
Cedar Hill State Park gives you so much variety in a small space. Rustic fences, open fields, tree canopy, wildflowers. If you’re a DFW family looking for a spot that feels wide open, this is it. We shot wide in the bluebonnet field to let the landscape breathe, then moved in close along the fenceline. The contrast gave this gallery real range.
Every family has its own rhythm. Some are loud. Some are quiet. This one was loud and sweet in equal measure, and the whole evening felt effortless. Check out more of our family photography work to see what we mean.
Is Cedar Hill State Park a good location for family photos?
It’s one of our favorites in the DFW area. The park offers rustic fences, open fields, wildflowers, and tree-lined paths all in one spot. During spring, the bluebonnets add incredible color without needing to drive to the Hill Country.
