Sunshine and Sweet Chaos: A Mom and Sons Session
Red hat, floral dress, two teenage boys who were actually having a good time in front of the camera. This mom and sons session at Moore Creek Park in St Helena had an energy we couldn’t have planned if we tried.
Let Kids Be Kids (Even the Tall Ones)
We say this about every family session, but it matters even more with teenagers: don’t try to make it perfect. Give them room to joke around, to be a little goofy. The second you stop posing and start just being together, we get the real stuff. That’s what happened here.
Moore Creek Park gave us everything we needed. Rocky trails, tall brush, dappled light filtering through the trees. The landscape has this rugged, natural feel that doesn’t compete with the people in front of the camera. It just frames them. If you’re looking for family photography in St Helena, this park deserves a serious look.
One of our favorite things about outdoor sessions is the variety you get just by walking fifty feet. A creekbed, a grassy hillside, a canopy of green. Each spot shifts the mood. We pulled in tight for the candid laughs on the trail, then went wide to catch all three of them walking hand in hand against that golden California hillside. The contrast between those frames is what makes a gallery feel complete.
These three were completely themselves the entire time. No stiffness, no awkward pauses. Just a mom and her boys, cracking each other up. Honestly, that is when we do our best work.
Is Moore Creek Park a good location for family photos in St Helena?
It’s one of our favorites in the area. The park has rocky creek beds, shaded trails, and open hillsides, which gives us a range of backdrops without driving between locations. Late afternoon light works especially well here.
