Dreamy Sunset: September Engagement Session at McCarthy Park

The sky turned gold about twenty minutes before we expected it to, and from that point on this September engagement session was pure magic. We were at McCarthy Youth and Conservation County Park in Cottage Grove. The light just kept giving. Warm, soft, the kind of glow that wraps around two people and makes every frame feel effortless.

That September Sweet Spot

September sits right between harsh midsummer sun and the muted tones of late fall. The light is forgiving, the warmth lingers, and skin tones look incredible without us chasing shade. McCarthy Park caught every bit of it that evening. Open fields, a tree line catching the last light, enough room for these two to just walk and be themselves. We shot wide to let the landscape breathe, then pulled in close when the moments got quieter.

These two were completely relaxed, and honestly, that is when we do our best work. No stiffness, no overthinking. They just moved together, laughed, leaned in. That kind of connection is something we can’t manufacture. All we can do is put people in beautiful light and stay ready. By the end of the session, the sky had cycled through gold, pink, and deep violet. We kept shooting through all of it. That last frame where everything goes soft and the world feels still is one of our favorites from the entire evening. This is the kind of session that reminds us why we love what we do.
