Together Is Our Favorite Place: A So Cal Family Session

Three sisters tearing through a golden field at sunset, laughing so hard they could barely stay on their feet. That’s how this So Cal family session started, and honestly, it only got better from there. We met this family of five at Thomas F. Riley Wilderness Park in Coto de Caza. From the first five minutes we knew we were in for something good.

Golden Hour and Zero Pretense

We timed this session for that last stretch of light. The kind that turns dry California grass into something out of a painting. The hills rolled behind them, the sun was low and warm, and this family just showed up ready to be themselves. That’s all we ever ask for.

The girls were fearless. Running, tackling, kissing each other on the cheek mid-frame. Mom and Dad kept up with all of it. The energy between them was the kind of thing you can’t direct. You just follow it with a camera and stay ready. We pulled in tight for the candid stuff because those in-between moments are where the real gallery lives.

Riley Wilderness Park gave us everything we needed. Open fields, dark leafy backgrounds for portraits, and enough space for three kids to sprint without limits. If you’re looking for family photography in CA and want a location that feels wild and wide open, this park delivers.

We ended the evening with just the two of them walking hand in hand through the field. Prickly pear cactus and sunset sat behind them. It was quiet and easy after an hour of beautiful chaos. That contrast between the two energies is something we live for. Check out more of our work on our family photography portfolio.
