A Session Full of Love: Flower Field Family Session
Two girls giggling in wildflowers, a dad who couldn’t stop scooping them up, and a mama with a baby on the way. This flower field family session in Helmond, Netherlands gave us every kind of light and every kind of laughter, and we didn’t waste a single frame.
Wildflowers, Golden Light, and Zero Stillness
The field was ridiculous. Knee-high wildflowers in every direction, warm evening light cutting sideways through the grass, and a wooden fence line that gave us just enough structure to anchor the compositions. We shot wide to let that landscape breathe, then pulled in tight when the girls started doing their thing.
And their thing was constant motion. Chasing, tackling dad, picking flowers, spinning in circles. We don’t fight that energy. We follow it. Some of our favorite frames from this evening came from moments that lasted maybe two seconds: a tiny hand full of petals, a mid-air giggle, dad on his knees getting absolutely piled on.
That kind of unscripted chaos is honestly when we do our best work. Posed and stiff doesn’t live here. The real stuff, the belly laughs and the bear hugs, that’s what ends up on the wall.
Mom was also expecting, which added another layer to this session we loved. We carved out a few quiet moments just for her on a path along the field’s edge. The light was soft, the background was simple, and she looked completely at ease. Then we brought the whole crew back together and let the energy pick right back up. That shift between calm and chaos gave us a gallery with real range, and if you’re planning a family session while expecting, this is exactly the kind of variety we aim for.

We do. Twig & Olive Photography is based in Madison, Wisconsin, but we regularly travel for sessions and weddings. If you’re in the Netherlands or elsewhere in Europe, reach out and we’ll work out the details.
What’s the best time of year for a flower field family session?
Late spring through early summer is ideal for wildflower fields in the Netherlands. We recommend booking an evening session about an hour before sunset, when the light is warm and the colors in the field really come alive.
