Golden Hour and a New Baby: Summer Garver Newborn Session

Some sessions just feel right from the first frame. Warm grass, wildflowers catching the last of the sun, and three brand new babies who could not have cared less that we were there. This summer Garver newborn session was one of those evenings where everything aligned.

Fresh Air, Wildflowers, and Very Sleepy Babies

People ask us all the time if outdoor newborn sessions are actually a thing. They are, and honestly, they’re one of our favorite things to photograph. Babies respond to warmth and fresh air in the best way. These three were out cold within minutes, curled up in their little setups while the breeze did all the soothing. The natural light filtering through the trees around Garver Feed Mill was doing the heavy lifting. We just had to show up and pay attention.

We have a thing for scale in newborn work. This session gave us so much to play with. We got down low, right at basket level, to pull the wildflower textures into the foreground. Then we’d stand back and shoot wide to show just how small these little ones really are. That push and pull between close and expansive is something we look for every time. This summer Garver newborn session delivered it in every frame.

Then the parents came into the frame, and everything shifted. There’s a moment when a new parent holds their baby in a place this beautiful and just forgets you’re there. That’s the shot. We barely gave a single direction. The connection was already happening, so we kept the light at their backs and let golden hour do its thing. If you’re thinking about newborn portraits in Madison, summer evenings on the Garver grounds are about as good as it gets. The whole property turns golden. Your only job is to hold your baby.
