Barefoot and Happy: A Summer Trail Family Session
Golden hour on a trail with a toddler who has zero interest in sitting still. That’s exactly how this summer trail family session at Indian Springs in Clarkston started, and honestly, we wouldn’t have it any other way.
Let the Trail Lead
This family showed up barefoot and ready to just be together. The trail at Indian Springs gave us long grass, warm light, and enough room for their little guy to roam. We followed his lead, and the images that came out of those moments are the ones that matter most.
There’s a specific kind of laugh that happens when a kid knows both parents are focused entirely on them. It’s loud and unfiltered and impossible to pose. We pulled in tight for those frames because that energy doesn’t last long, and you want it on your wall.
Mom’s wide-brim hat, the green meadow behind them, that ridiculous grin on their son’s face. Sometimes a frame just comes together. We shot wide to let the landscape breathe, then came in close when the connection pulled us forward. That instinct is something we’ve learned to trust.
The best part of a Clarkston family session like this one? Nobody had to perform. They walked the trail together, picked up their kid when he got tired, and stole a quiet moment as a couple while he dozed off on dad’s shoulder. We were just there catching it.
That shift from wild, running energy to a sleeping toddler draped over his dad’s chest is something we live for. It tells the whole story of what it’s like to have a little one. If you’re considering family photography in Clarkston or anywhere with trails and open light, this is the kind of session we love to shoot.
Is Indian Springs Hiking Trail a good location for family photos?
It’s one of our favorites in the Clarkston area. The trail offers long grassy paths, wildflower patches, and beautiful golden hour light, all without the crowds you’d find at a more popular park. It works especially well for families with young kids who need room to move.
