A Beautiful Afternoon: Sunset Sunflower Session
Golden hour light pouring through rows of sunflowers, a toddler who could not stop laughing, and two parents completely soaking it in. That’s what this sunset sunflower session at Mayberry Farms gave us, and we loved every frame.
Letting Kids Lead the Session
We always say the best family sessions happen when kids set the pace. This one proved it. Their daughter wanted to run through the grass, pick flowers, and be tossed in the air by dad. So that’s exactly what we photographed. No stiff posing, no forced smiles. Just a family being themselves in a beautiful place while we stayed close and kept shooting.
The light at Mayberry Farms that evening was unreal. Warm, low, and wrapping around everything it touched. We shot wide to pull in the farmhouse and the fields, then moved in tight for the quiet moments between mom and daughter. That contrast is what makes a gallery feel complete.
If you’re considering family portraits in the Wisconsin countryside, a spot like this is hard to beat. Sunflower fields, open pastures, old farm buildings with peeling paint. Every direction we turned gave us a new backdrop. And the best part? Their little girl treated the whole place like her personal playground, which gave us some of our favorite candid shots of the year.
We ended the session in a wildflower garden tucked off to the side of the property. Their daughter picked a pink cosmos, held it up like a trophy, and grinned. We got the shot. Honestly, moments like that are why we do this work. You can’t plan them. You just have to be ready.
When is the best time of year for a sunflower session at Mayberry Farms?
Late summer is peak sunflower season in Wisconsin, typically mid-July through August. We recommend booking an evening session so you get that golden hour light filtering through the stalks. Timing varies each year depending on the growing season, so we keep an eye on bloom updates and plan accordingly.
