Moments Like These: Where the Wild Things Are

Some sessions just have a spirit to them. This Where the Wild Things Are family session in Lake Elmo had it from the very first frame. Golden light, a wide open meadow, and a baby who was absolutely in her element.

Chasing Light and Letting Kids Be Kids

We timed this one for golden hour, and it delivered. The meadow outside Lake Elmo was catching that warm, late-afternoon glow that turns everything soft. Tall grass, wildflowers, and open sky in every direction. If you’re looking for family photography in Lake Elmo, this kind of setting is hard to beat.

Mom and dad play with their baby in a golden meadow during a Lake Elmo family session

What we loved about this family was their willingness to just go with it. Dad tossing his daughter in the air, mom laughing as they chased each other through the grass. We pulled in close for those candid reactions because that’s where the real stuff lives. No stiff posing, no forced smiles. Just a family being exactly who they are.

And then there was the crown. A tiny crown, a wooden crate, wildflowers everywhere, and a baby grinning like she owned the whole meadow. That setup was simple, but the light wrapped around her in a way that made every frame feel like a storybook page. We shot wide to take in the field, then came in tight on that face. Those are the images that end up on the wall.

This is the kind of session we live for. Relaxed parents, a kid with personality to spare, and light that does half the work for us. If you’re thinking about family photos with your little ones, our best advice is simple: let them run, let them laugh, and trust us to catch it all.
