August Sunset Engagement Session: Golden Hour with Their Pup

The light that evening was the kind you chase all summer. Warm, low, spilling across the wildflower fields at Token Creek Park like it had nowhere else to be. This August sunset engagement session had everything we love about shooting couples in DeForest: tall grasses, a golden sky, and two people completely relaxed in front of the camera. Oh, and a chocolate Lab in a bandana who stole the show more than once.

Wildflowers, a Chocolate Lab, and That Summer Light

Bringing a dog to an engagement session changes the energy in the best way. There’s no room for stiffness when a Lab is nudging between you, wagging hard enough to blur the frame. These two leaned into it completely. They laughed, they chased, they let the dog lead them through the meadow. We followed with our cameras. That kind of unscripted moment is a photographer’s dream.

Token Creek Park in August is something else. The wildflowers are at full height. The grasses catch every bit of that late sun, and the open fields give us room to shoot wide. We timed this session for about an hour before sunset, and it paid off. The light wrapped around them in every direction.

We always build in time for both the dog shots and the couple-only frames. The pup brings personality and joy. But those quiet moments where it’s just the two of them touching foreheads or walking through the field? That’s where the romance lives. The contrast gave this gallery real range, and that balance is something we aim for in every couples session.
