Perfectly Imperfect: A Mama and Me Session
Red hair, bare feet, and a baby girl who wanted to grab every leaf in sight. This mama and me session in St. Augustine was one of those afternoons where everything just clicked, not because it was planned, but because nobody was trying too hard.
Garden Light, Marsh Light, Beach Light
We started in a lush garden setting with the baby perched on a blanket, surrounded by green. The light was dappled and soft, filtering through the canopy. Then we moved under the live oaks near the marsh, and the whole mood shifted. Spanish moss, golden backlight, and this gorgeous mama lifting her daughter into the air like it was the most natural thing in the world. We shot wide to let that landscape breathe, then pulled in tight for the quiet moments.
There’s a frame from the marshside where mom is holding her girl cheek to cheek, and golden hour light is doing all the work. We barely had to direct anything. That kind of connection is what makes family photography worth every bit of effort it takes to chase the right light.
By the end of the session we were on the dunes. Sand everywhere. The baby sat right down in it like she owned the place. That is exactly the energy we love. No fussing, no forcing. Just a mom and her daughter doing their thing while the last light wrapped around them. If you’re considering St. Augustine for family photos, the coastal landscapes and live oak canopy give you three or four completely different looks in one session. We’d come back here in a heartbeat.
