Stories Worth Telling: A Nashville Family Session

Three kids, one very patient mom, and about thirty seconds before someone took off running. That’s how this Nashville family session at Radnor Lake State Park started, and honestly, we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Let Them Be Wild

Radnor Lake gives families room to breathe. The trails are shaded, the light filters through the canopy in soft patches, and there’s enough space for kids to run without anyone feeling penned in. We love that about this park. It does half the work for us.

We always tell families the same thing: play, laugh, tickle, chase. Posed and stiff is not what we’re going for. The more natural the interaction, the better the photos turn out. This crew didn’t need any convincing. They were wrestling and giggling before we even had the camera up.

And then there was this one. Red tulle dress, wooden bridge, and a little girl who knew exactly how to work both. We pulled in close and let her lead. That kind of confidence in a kid is a photographer’s gift. You just stay out of the way and keep shooting.

The boys got their solo moments too. Wildflowers, dappled light, and two genuine grins. No bribing required. If you’re considering Radnor Lake for family photos, the variety of backdrops along the trails makes it easy to get a full range of looks without moving far.

This last frame is the one. Mom and Dad planting cheek kisses while the boys crack up beside them. It’s chaotic. It’s real. It’s exactly the kind of image we hope every family walks away with. These are the moments we do our best work capturing, the ones that happen between the poses.
