All the Feels: Sunset Field Family Session

Golden hour hit that field in Helmond and the light just kept getting better. This sunset field family session had the kind of warmth you can’t manufacture: two boys who couldn’t stop laughing, parents completely at ease, and a summer meadow that glowed from every angle. We barely had to direct a thing.

Wildflowers, Wheat Fields, and Zero Stiffness

The location itself was stunning. Rolling fields, wildflowers, sunflowers catching the last light. We were shooting just outside Helmond, and the landscape gave us everything we needed. But what made our job easy was this family’s energy. The boys ran through tall grass, tackled each other, kissed their mom on the nose. We shot wide to pull in the landscape, then moved in close when the quiet moments happened on their own.

We always tell families to just be themselves. Play, chase, tickle. Posed and stiff is never the goal. The in-between moments are where the real images live, and this family gave us those moments over and over.

Dad in a blue blazer lifting his giggling son into the air. Mom kneeling in the cornflowers while her boy stood above her laughing. That kind of connection is what we aim for in every family session we photograph, whether it’s in the Netherlands or back home in Wisconsin.

The couple portraits in the wheat field reminded us why we love golden hour so much. That backlit glow wrapped around them, and we leaned into it with every frame. Her wide-brim hat, his relaxed posture. These two were completely at ease with each other, and honestly, that is when we do our best work.

If you’re thinking about booking a family session in a wide-open field at sunset, this is what it can look like. Let the kids run. Trust the light. We’ll handle the rest.

Frequently Asked Questions about Family Photography in Helmond

What time of day is best for a field family session?

We almost always recommend the last hour or two before sunset. The light is warm, soft, and directional, which gives us that golden glow you see in these images. It also means less squinting and more natural expressions from kids.

Does Twig & Olive photograph families outside of the United States?

We do. We’ve photographed families across Europe and beyond. If you’re interested in scheduling a session, reach out and let us know where you are. We’ll work out the details from there.
