The Good Stuff: Urban Nature Family Session

Some families show up a little nervous, wondering how their kid will do in front of a camera. This family? They showed up ready to play. Our urban nature family session at Garver Feed Mill was all golden hour light, tall grass, and a baby who could not stop laughing.

Let Them Be Themselves

We timed this session for golden hour, and it paid off. The light out near Garver was warm and low, filtering through the wildflowers and tall grass in a way that made every frame feel effortless. That’s the thing about shooting outdoors in late summer. The landscape does half the work.

We always tell families the same thing: just be yourselves. Tickle, chase, be ridiculous. The more natural the interaction, the better our photos turn out. Posed and stiff is never what we’re going for. These three were completely relaxed, and honestly, that is when we do our best work.

The baby was the real star here. Grinning on a handmade crochet blanket in the middle of a field, sitting up in a wicker basket wearing a little bear bonnet. We pulled in close for those details because they’re the ones parents come back to years later. The tiny hands. The expression that’s already changing by next month.

Outdoor sessions give us room to let kids be kids. There’s space to explore, roll around, and just exist in nature while we capture it all.
